A low-fidelity cassette recording.

‘The New 20th Century F*xes’ was a one-time-only experimental rehearsal that Mike and I undertook, before Dave made it to Lancaster for the second iteration of the band, in which Mike was angling to play guitar, and so constitutes a strange configuration of me on keyboards and vocals, Mike on guitar and vocals, Neil Crossley from the Natural Scientists on bass, and Chris Hallam on drums.
It is a fascinating look at a direction the F*xes could have taken in another reality.
Interesting too that the actual new band never played Wide Awake and didn’t return to Centrefold Girls until just before their final gig, The 24-Hour Gig at The Duke’s Playhouse.
